From Grit to Garage: How KC's Automotive Specialists Is Redefining Trust in Local Auto Repair
A woman-led legacy in Anderson, SC that’s keeping the community rolling with transparency, heart, and hometown service.
Driven by Grit, Grounded in Faith: The Story Behind KC’s Automotive
When KC’s Automotive Specialists first opened its doors in January 2003, there wasn’t a polished business plan or a team of investors—just $10,000, a deep knowledge of cars, and a dream. James, the original owner, took a leap of faith. And after his passing in 2021, that leap became a legacy.
Now at the helm is his wife, who didn’t plan to become the face of the business but chose to keep the wheels turning out of love, duty, and vision for the future. “It could have been left to someone else,” she says, “but it wasn’t. I carry that honor with me daily.”
Becoming the Face of the Family Business
Taking over wasn’t without its weight. From daily decisions about payroll and repairs to the larger task of earning community trust—especially as a woman in a male-dominated field…every day brought challenges. But her motivation remained steady: “I wanted to keep growing the business for the next generation.”
Trust didn’t come easy. “My husband was the face of the business for nearly two decades. For many customers, I was a stranger. But we’ve built trust through transparency…like offering digital safety reports with pictures and technician notes so people can see exactly what’s going on with their vehicle.”
Building a New Chapter, One Repair at a Time
The shop hasn’t changed much on the surface except for some subtle rebranding but the heart remains the same. Kindness. Integrity. Listening. These are the values passed down from James that continue to define KC's Automotive Specialists.
Each day starts at 7:30 a.m. with a team meeting to align on the day’s goals. Technicians focus on diagnostics and repairs, while the front office staff balances phones, quotes, customer check-ins, and parts orders. Management oversees the flow, marketing, and continued improvements.
A Mission Fueled by Community
One of the most memorable customer connections came through a shared experience—cancer. “She was an elderly customer on a fixed income. We talked about health, survival… and I helped her with some of her car repairs. She couldn’t believe someone would do that. But that’s what community means to me.”
That journey through cancer forever reshaped her lens as a business owner, leader, and woman. “Cancer doesn’t care who you are. It humbles you. It makes you more empathetic. It brings you closer to God.”
Even through treatments and recovery, she showed up not just in body, but in leadership. “Sometimes I couldn’t help with much physically, but I was present for every executive decision, every team need. That was my fight.”

Looking Ahead: The Legacy She’s Building
KC Automotive isn’t just about fixing cars. It’s about creating a foundation strong enough for future generations to grow from. “We want to be known as an honest and reliable shop that helps people care for their investment—and understand it too.”
For others navigating personal battles while leading businesses, her advice is clear: “Keep God close. Hire good people. Communicate. And never forget why you started.”
Because for her, success isn’t just measured in service tickets—it’s in every moment she chooses to show up.
